3 CIVIL SERVANTS FINED D1M FOR DRUGS TRAFFICKING

Three civil servants arrested after suspected cannabis was allegedly found concealed in a government vehicle have been fined a total D1,050,000 after been found guilty by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.

The three – 29-year-old Adama Tabally from the Ministry of Finance; 28-year-old Yankuba Nyassi and 30-year-old Musa Jammeh from the Ministry of Agriculture – were arraigned before Magistrate A Darboe yesterday following their arrest on 26th August at the Kalaji checkpoint.

The three, all drivers, were allegedly found with 36 large bundles of cannabis concealed in a Toyota minivan with number plate GG 0848.

The court fined each of the drivers D350,000, in default, to serve five years in prison.  Two of the accused reportedly paid D150,000 each and were granted three months to settle the D200,000 balance with Gambian sureties required.

The third accused, who was unable to make any payment towards the fine, has since been remanded at Mile 2 Prisons.
